The north western peninsula that offers the best surfing atmosphere with dolphin sightings is Kalpitiya. Kalpitiya is an internationally famed location for Whale and Dolphin sightings; over six species of whales and dolphin species have been sighted just few kilometers off shore. The best time for sighting Dolphins is from November to March/April. Either scuba dive or snorkel to the Bar Reef Marine Sanctuary in less than an hour from Kalpitiya. The Bar Reef is the most iconic, widest and lengthy reserved coral reef in the country with vividly coloured and textured marine organisms.
